Accelerating Action in Children's Oral Health: Celebrating International Women's Day with Dominique Tillen
In honour of International Women’s Day, the theme this year—“Accelerate action”—has encouraged me to reflect on my journey as a woman, a mother, and the founder of brush-baby. It has given me the opportunity to look back on the bold steps I took to transform how children’s oral health is viewed, and how those actions have made a lasting impact.
Transforming Children’s Oral Health as a Woman Entrepreneur
As a new mum, I was deeply concerned about my baby daughter’s developing teeth. When I began searching for toothbrushes specifically designed for babies, I was disappointed to find only mini versions of adult toothbrushes. They were too big for her delicate mouth, and far too awkward for me to handle.
It became clear that I wasn’t alone in facing this struggle. Many other parents wanted the best for their children but had limited options. That’s when I decided to take action. I created a toothbrush specifically for toddlers—one that would make life easier for parents like myself while addressing my daughter’s needs. This led to the development of the Chewable Toothbrush.
Creating the Chewable Toothbrush: A Game-Changer in Baby Oral Care
The Chewable Toothbrush was a game-changer. It tapped into a baby’s natural urge to chew, offering a size and shape that perfectly fit along the gumline, soothing while also cleaning teeth. It was a solution that didn’t exist before, and I’m incredibly proud of how it helped to redefine what children’s oral health could be.
Why "Baby Teeth Matter": My Mission to Improve Children’s Oral Health
As a parent, I’ve always believed that “baby teeth matter,” and I took action to prove it. By starting brush-baby, I pushed for change in an industry that had largely overlooked the specific needs of young children. Today, I’m proud that the Chewable Toothbrush is part of our unique range of dental-care products for ages 0-10, helping to reshape children’s oral health and its impact on overall wellbeing.
